A Dripping Springs team up for a needed ramp.

The Patten’s are longtime residents of Dripping Springs. The family owned an outdoor furniture woodshop and store in Dripping for many years. Betty would substitute teach at DSISD and other schools in the area. Lisa has battled cancer most of her life. These battles have impaired her mobility to the point where she can no longer use the stairs at the home she shares with her mother.

She has a wheeled walker to move around with. She had not left the premises since February of this year when the ice storm forced Lisa and her mother to leave the house. This was a dangerous evacuation as Lisa and her mother could not manage to take the stairs to leave or get back in without the aid of neighbor.

Lisa contacted Project Connect and the DS Lions Club who then reached out to Hometown Missions as wheelchair ramps are most definitely in our mission for a safe and healthy home when needed.

The DS Lions Club generously purchased the materials for the ramp. They also paid for a dumpster to demo and haul off the old, and falling down shed that has become a hazard.

Volunteers from Hometown Missions, DS Lions Club, and the DS Elite Realtors group worked together over two very warm days in July to complete construction of the ramp.

Lisa and Betty are both excited about no longer being homebound with a safe ramp. They can visit with their neighbor across the street and can return to Dripping Springs to visit other friends there as well.
